A single, self-employed mother and her son were followed by our Transitional Care Team. Her son had previous suspensions from school, leaving her scrambling to cancel appointments in order to care for her son. Leaving work to pick up her son at a moment’s notice was very difficult for her. She was understandably worried about renewed suspensions after her son’s graduation from Child Psychiatry, and the impact it would have on her work and her clients.
There was no family in the city she could turn to for help, so we suggested she find someone in the neighbourhood who could babysit. As it turned out, she did have a neighbour who looked after her son during the afternoon. This mother worked out an agreement with this woman for emergency situations, should her son receive a suspension.
